My best hand ever

My story takes place about 10 yrs ago. My poker experience at the time was limited to playing penny-ante poker with my friends, mainly 7 card stud and a few variations(baseball and follow the queen, to name a few), and 5 card draw. I hadn't even heard of Texas Holdem yet. I headed to the local Indian casino (San Manuel in Highland, CA) to play a little 7 card stud. I usually went there to play slots, but I was in the mood to play cards.

I was seated at a $2/$4 table ready for whatever the cards dealt me. And they didn't give me much to work with for a little over an hour. Then I get dealt a most promising opening hand...AJ face down with a K up, all hearts. My first thought was "ooh flush draw." The big blind raised, half the table folds, I call, 4 players remaining. 4th street comes, I hit the 10 of hearts. Now I'm thinking "oh damn, 1 card from a royal. I probably won't get it." BB bets, everyone calls. Now comes 5th street, 9 of diamonds. No help at all. Well, I still have two cards left. Got to see it through. Again, the BB bets, I call, the others fold. 2 players remaining. 6th street comes...6 of diamonds. Damn, now I only 5 possible hands for the river....(1) no help, just Ace high, (2) a pair, (3) a straight, with any Q but Qh, (4) a flush with any heart but the Qh, or (5) the Qh for the royal flush. Of course, I figured on getting either 1 or 2. BB bets out, and I call. Got to see what I end up with . Last card comes, and I don't want to look at it. Because I just know I've got junk. Reluctantly, I finally look at my down card. And I let out a big gasp. And then I'm saying to myself, "You idiot. Nice going, poker face." I couldn't believe it. Queen of hearts. Royal Flush. The pot wasn't a big one, but it got me back to even money for the night. It ended up being a losing night for me, cashwise. But I will never forget the night I hit the ultimate hand in poker, for the first, and thus far, only time.
