Strange Play
My story is not about a bad beat or big bluff, but about a very strange play at the Aruba poker tourney 3 years ago.
It was the second round and I had a pretty good stack, with the blinds at 1 and 2 thousand, the person in 3rd position went all in with his last 6 thousand, I picked up pocket sixes and made the call, everyone folded to the big blind who also called the bet.
The all in poker player then turned his hand over and revealed pocket Aces, I think he did not know he was not supposed to show his cards, but any way I'm kissing my 6 thousand goodbye and I'm sure the blind was thinking the same.
The flop came up J-6-4 rainbow giving me a set of sixes, which I figured I would check down and eliminate another player, but the big blind bets 2 thousand into me, and I'm thinking he must have the Aces beat or he would have not bet, so I figured the only that beats me is pocket Jacks and no matter what my money going in the pot, so I put him all in figuring that he would fold if did not have a big hand, Well after I say all in he beats me into the pot, and I figured I have lost, He jumps up and throws his hand on the table, and what does he show, not pocket Jacks, not a set, not two pair, But he turns over POCKET ACES, which means he's drawing almost dead seeing that the other player has the other two Aces and he knows that. To this day I will never understand that play because even if I did not have a hand he could have only won half the pot.
P.S. That was the second time in the tourney that two people had pocket Aces in the same hand and I cracked them both
