The following story is true

Playing 7-card stud at the stardust in las vegas about 20-25 years ago with 6 other players, with one of the players a wild player who raised on his turn every time.

My first four cards are nines. On fourth street the betting explodes.

3 raises maximum. I just called.

This was on a $1 to $3 table. There was about $150 to $200 in the pot. The betting ended when the five other players ran out of money , one by one. I was in up to the end.

I turned my hand up to show the four nines.

Another player who hadn't looked at his last card yet, because he was the last to go all in, and i had called him.

His last card was a king, which gave him four kings. He'd had king's full before the last card.

He won the whole pot.

There is more to this story.

The stardust had a bad beat jackpot which was worth $1600 at that time. The loser got 80%.....

So i figured that 80% of $1600 Or $1280 would make up for this loss.

While we were playing this hand, there was a small commotion at a table towards the front of the poker room. But, because of the action going on at our table, we paid no heed.

When the brushman came over to check my jackpot win, i was informed that the $1600 jackpot had been won Abou 10 minutes before at the table Where the small commotioon had occurred.

The new jackpot was $100 and my win was $80. I tipped the dealer $8.

So, i had lost a pot of $150-$200 or I had lost $1200. My net win from the hand was $72.
